Frequently Asked Questions
๐ค Why isn't there a straight pride?
It goes without saying that our straight allies are a vital passenger in our journey towards equality, acceptance and celebration, but sadly there is a small minority of people who demand to know vocally when their straight pride is.
Here are just a few reasons why straight pride isn't really necessary:
- Straight people are not attacked or murdered for being straight
- Straight people can almost travel anywhere without having to worry about being straight
- Straight people have always been able to marry
- Straight people have never been sentenced to prison for being straight
- Straight people are not called sinners for being straight
- Straight people don't have to face heterophobia in work, out socialising or in their family unit
- Straight people pop up everywhere in every culture
๐ณ๏ธโ๐ When and where is Torfaen Pride?
Torfaen Pride takes place at Pontypool Park, on the first Saturday of June. Keep an eye on our socials and this website for updates!
๐๏ธ How much does it cost to attend?
Nothing! Torfaen Pride is completely free to enter.
We believe Pride should be accessible to everyone, regardless of income. (But if you fancy throwing a donation our way to help keep it that way — we won’t say no.)
๐พ Can I bring my dog?
Yes! Well-behaved pooches on leads are welcome. Just make sure they’re comfortable with crowds, loud music and people in glitter.
๐ Will there be food and drink available?
Absolutely! From street food to sweet treats, and bars run by The Rainbow Bar, The Drunken Sailors, and Tipsy Mule, you won’t go hungry or thirsty. Vegan, veggie and gluten-free options will also be available.
๐ค Can I perform at Torfaen Pride?
We’re always on the lookout for amazing local talent! Keep an eye out for our performer applications or drop us a message on our Get In Touch page. Whether you’re a singer, dancer, poet, drag queen, or juggling unicorn — we want to hear from you.
๐๏ธ Can I have a stall in the Marketplace or Community Village?
Yes! Our Marketplace and Community Village, supported by Torfaen and Gwent Small Business Markets, welcomes traders, creatives, charities and community groups. Applications open in the run-up to the event — get in early, spaces go fast!
๐งโ๐คโ๐ง Can I volunteer?
Please do! We’re powered by volunteers and we’d love to have you on board — whether that’s helping on the day or supporting us year-round. Visit the Get Involved page to learn more.
๐ฎโโ๏ธ Is the event safe and family-friendly?
Yes. We work closely with local authorities to ensure Torfaen Pride is a safe, inclusive and welcoming space for people of all ages and backgrounds. Families, allies, and first-time Pride attendees — you are all part of our community.
๐ณ๏ธโโง๏ธ Iโm not LGBTQ+ โ can I still come?
Of course! Pride is for everyone who believes in equality, inclusion, and human rights. Allies make Pride stronger — come, celebrate, support, and stand with us.
๐ Will there be drag queens?
Darling... would it even be Pride without them? Yes — expect fabulous drag performances across our stages, from fierce local queens to some extra sparkly surprises.
๐งป Are there toilets on site?
Yes, including accessible toilets. We’re also working to ensure there are gender-neutral facilities wherever possible.
๐ธ Will there be cash machines?
Some traders may accept cash only, but most will have card readers. There are ATMs nearby in Pontypool town centre — but we recommend bringing both just in case.
๐ถ๏ธ What should I wear?
Whatever makes you feel proud, joyful and you! Glitter, flags, rainbows, or just comfy trainers — Pride has no dress code. (But sun cream is strongly advised. Wales is wild.)
๐ Can I bring my straight friends?
Yes. But only if they agree to clap on beat and hold your stuff while you dance.
